Happy Spring! We are in the middle of a Wedding photography timeline blog series. If you’re planning your wedding, this is for you! We know that planning a wedding can get crazy, especially those little details. We hope that you’ll be able to take these tips and plan the perfect wedding schedule for your big day! If you want to read the first part of the series, you can do so HERE .
Before we dive into our next part of the series, first look-ceremony, we wanted to just say this: We believe that your wedding day is about you as a couple and your love. PERIOD. The day does not revolve around your wedding photographer. However, we also believe that being strategic when you are planning your wedding photography timeline can produce some amazing portraits. Working with your wedding photographer to create a wedding photography timeline is going to do wonders for your final images. We may not know everything, but as wedding photographers we know a thing or two about making schedules.
Here are some tips for planning out your day during the first look until the ceremony.
First looks aren’t for everyone. In fact, many of our couples forego first looks simply because it’s not their style (and that’s okay!) If you are debating a first look at your wedding, here are some little things to help you make your decision.
If you do decide to go with a first look, we like to schedule in 20-30 minutes for just the two of you. We love this time with just the bride and groom because we capture such candid and joyful moments before the hustle and bustle of wedding day get in the way!
Regardless if you have a first look or not, we DO recommend scheduling time before the wedding ceremony for bridal party portraits. Sometimes it’s not doable, but we love to grab at least the bridesmaids and groomsmen if possible. We recommend allotting 20 minutes for these portraits!
“Welcome to our unplugged ceremony! Please turn off all cellphones & cameras and enjoy this special moment with us! Thank you!”
Welcome to our unplugged wedding! We thank you for coming to share our day, but for the ceremony, please keep your cameras & cellphones away!”
“Oh snap! Thank you for coming. We have but one plea, please keep our ceremony camera free! Though our “I Do’s” are unplugged, our reception is not. Once we finish our first dance, you’re free to take a shot!”
If you have a summer outdoor ceremony, you’ll want to have your ceremony a little later in the day. Noon-2:30 is not only the hottest part of the day, but extremely harsh lighting. Do yourself and your guests a favor: schedule for 3 or later.
Next week, we’ll be chatting about those family portraits, bridal party portraits, and reception! (BONUS next week we will have freebie sample timelines to help you as you plan your wedding photography timeline)
