“And, darling, I will be loving you ’til we’re 70 And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23,
And I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am
So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are”
I want to preface what I’m about to say with the fact that I appreciate love stories of all kinds…From the ones that have been built on years and years of dating & a long engagement, to the love stories that happen so fast that you’re not sure what hit you. Each is unique and special, and the reasons why are often so admirable.
That being said, I have a soft spot in my heart for weddings that are slightly unconventional in terms of the length of the engagement, kind of the Rascal Flatt’s mentality of “Why wait another minute, For somethin’ we should ‘a done yesterday?”
In December, Aaron came home from 6 months of basic training. Having picked out the perfect ring for Bethany, he asked her to be his wife. She said yes.
They set their date for February 28th, leaving them only a few months to pull everything together. (If you’ve ever planned a wedding, you’ll know that doing it in a few months is quite the challenge.) In those few short months, I’d see little bits of Bethany’s excitement. Sometimes I’d pass by her at our workplace and she’d be glowing as she talked about little details of the wedding or about their new apartment. On Facebook, there were status updates like “I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO BE MARRIED!!!!”. And what made their excitement even better was the excitement shown from their friends and family. It was obvious that what Aaron & Bethany have together is something special.
Being a photographer, you get to see weddings in a different light. I’ve often found that being a silent observer of the day allows me to appreciate more fully the little details, looks, and words. As I photographed their day, I could not help but smile. They are perfect together. In every sense of the word: Perfect. They bounce back and forth with such ease that it would be difficult to deny that they are each other’s best friends.
What I think really stood out to me was that their relationship was so authentic. So real and honest that it was clear that it wasn’t for attention or for the camera. It was just them being in love with each other. At one point after the ceremony, I turned around from taking pictures of Bethany’s parents, and they were just sitting on a pew cuddled up talking & laughing. Watching them, you can see that they are happiest together. I spent the morning with both of them, and neither smiled as much as when they were with each other.
What can I say to sum up their wedding day?
What words could ever come close to saying what I experienced and saw as a bystander that day?
Their day left me speechless, smiling, & so incredibly blessed.
Congratulations to one of the best couples out there!
