December 31, 2015
2015 was a pretty big year for me as a photographer. I had hoped to grow a lot, and I think I really did! The year was extraordinarily rewarding..I worked with some super awesome couples and families.
There were several moments that really stuck out to me. There were brides that were running behind on their day who didn’t get to do the whole primping and relaxing process. The grooms definitely stood out this year and did an exceptional job caring for their new brides. There were moments when I looked at the bridal parties and thought #squadgoals. There were moments that made me want to cry, specifically the mother-son/father-daughter dances. There were moments that totally rocked my world and others that just…didn’t. There were some of the most beautiful and amazing vows I’ve heard thus far. But the biggest thing that stood out to me, and I guess it’s something that I’ll always go back to, is the love. The love stood out. It was present, surrounding, and covering each of the weddings and family sessions I shot. And that’s what I’m all about.
The year also posed some pretty hefty challenges, mainly my Canon 5D Mark II continued to fail on shoots even after being repaired. It was a set back that I hadn’t expected, and resulted in several rentals or the use of my back up camera. However, because of a failing camera, I was able to finally take the jump and purchase the Canon 5D Mark III. (AKA THE CAMERA OF MY DREAMS!) I’m not one to usually be all about gear, but…that camera is amazing and definitely blows my old camera out of the water.
I checked off another item off of the bucket list: I shot my very first destination wedding on Marco Island, Florida. It was definitely a fantastic experience and one I would like to repeat in the future.
I shot with a couple of different second shooters this year, but I have to say that my favorite was working with my husband, Austin. He and I were in sync. He knew what I wanted and needed, and he did it. There is a real advantage to working with someone who knows you inside and out. He did an incredible job, and we are hoping to make the whole working together thing a bigger part of my business. Plus, who doesn’t like working with someone who you can also steal a quick hug from?
This year I shot my first wedding while being pregnant. It was…..different. I shot a wedding just 4 weeks after my baby was born. I was….different. Let’s just say: 1. I left both with an overwhelming exhaustion (but excited about the photos!) and 2. I had to run to Old Navy for both because I didn’t have anything in my closet that fit properly.
As to this year’s photos, I’m pretty proud of them! I’ve grown a lot, and I think that I’m just at the tip of the iceberg. So, here you go! A hefty collection , but not even close to all of my 2015 favorites.
